About Us
About Us

Wellspring Wines was founded by Roddy Ropner in 2009. Our aim is to provide high quality wines at reasonable prices backed by excellent service.

As a company with low overheads we are able to keep our costs to a reasonable level and provide very competitive pricing across our portfolio. At the same time we insist on the highest standards for shipping and storage of all wines. We pride ourselves on sourcing through our direct relations with the growers. As collectors and consumers ourselves we understand the importance of service and it is our aim to provide a personal touch. It is our hope that buying wines from Wellspring Wines is a simple and indeed a pleasurable experience.

In addition to wines for everyday drinking we offer a Fine Wine List and wines “en primeur”. Wines listed on the Fine Wine List come with impeccable and traceable provenance. Whether you are buying for everyday drinking, for laying down, for investment or for a special event please feel free to contact us for advice.

Roddy Ropner

Roddy’s introduction to wine came as a teenager while spending summers in Pauillac and then on the family vineyard in Napa. After joining Christie’s, where he was latterly a director in Hong Kong and responsible for developing markets in Asia, he helped to run wine auctions across the continent from Tokyo to Singapore. This gave him an invaluable insight into taste throughout the region and the logistical requirements of shipping and storing wines. Roddy has been collecting wine for two decades and holds the WSET Diploma. E-mail: r.ropner@wellspringwines.com

Amanda Skinner

Amanda Skinner’s interest in fine wine was ignited in the Summer of 1984 by a two week temporary assignment working for John Armit, who at that time was consulting for Corney & Barrow. The following year she was jeune fille at the Château de Saran for Champagne Moët & Chandon and her mind was made up to make her career in wine. On her return to London she joined the H Allen Smith, Ehrmanns & Viniberia group and from there joined John Armit full time in his business, John Armit Wine Investments. Initially managing portfolios for large private investors and collectors, the company soon expanded its range and activity to include the full gamut of wines from around the world and added hotels and restaurants and other wine merchants and retailers, nationally and internationally, to its customer base. During eighteen years with John Armit, Amanda worked in most areas of the business and held the position of Managing Director from 1998 – 2004. Moving to Norfolk in 2005, she spent two years at Lay & Wheeler working with the Wheeler family on the re-organisation of the business prior to its sale and, in January 2008, she joined Private Cellar and works primarily on new business development and managing her international client and supplier base.
