Nicola's Tasting Note:
Made from Pinot Noir. Deliciously pale salmon pink with a lovely creamy nose of crushed red fruits – raspberry and redcurrant – soft and really alluring. Fresh, creamed, supple on the palate with again lovely red berry fruits, really fine definition and incredibly stylish. Perfect as an aperitif or with food – fish, white meats, spiced - a good all-rounder!

Grower Information: The Dezat family can trace their wine-growing history back to the 1550s. The current members of the family involved are André, a well-known local character with the nickname "Le Petit D(ieu)" and his two sons, Simon who manages the work in the vineyards and Louis who is in charge of the cellars and making it a completely family affair, their wives Sylvie and Nadine who run the office. They are based in the hamlet of Chaudoux and their 20 hectares on family-owned vineyards cover five different vineyard sites, the fruit from which is then blended to create their superb Sancerre. The soils are a combination of "Caillottes" which is stony and lean and contributes bright fruit flavours to the wine; "Terre Blanches" which is a combination of clay and chalky limestone which gives body and scent to the wine and finally, "Silex" which is a fine, flinty soil which gives the classic gunpowder and stony scent to the wine. They also own the 10 hectare Domaine de Thibault in Pouilly sur Loire, which has heavier, clay and chalk and clay and silex soils and produces a wine with more texture and body. The vines date from the 1950s and are Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. André was amongst the first winemakers of the region to produce a rouge and rosé from their small planting of Pinot Noir.
